No matter what the situation is – a compliment in person, a gift, a kind deed – a genuine thank you is always in order. We love to receive thanks. It validates that we are good humans and that we’ve touched someone in a thoughtful way. We also love to give thanks. It brings joy to the giver and it closes the circle of kindness.
A thank you can take shapes and forms. It can be a look in the eye and a smile, a simple text, or a handwritten note (there’s nothing better than a handwritten note these days). But sometimes we grapple with how to match the appropriate thank you to the situation, what to say, how much is too much, or how much is too little.
