Life seems to be moving at a frantic pace this time of year; kids graduations, family weddings, moving to a new home, relatives visiting, work deadlines, etc, etc. Getting ready for vacation can be stressful too. You’re in hyperdrive at work or at home tying up loose ends so you can leave it all behind to relax and unplug.

Does all of this stress make your heart race a little faster? Are you hearing the warning bells of someone who is seriously overwhelmed? You’re not alone. But taking a vacation or going to the spa every time you’re feeling a little stressed isn’t an option for most of us. So where do you go to find respite from life’s daily grind?

Finding your sanctuary is as easy as carving out a quiet corner in your home. Add a comfy chair by the window and curl up with a pot of chamomile tea and a luxurious throw. Or maybe you’re able to take over an entire room to create your own private sanctuary like Jennifer. After purging her home and hosting a two-day garage sale filled with 17 years of family “treasures,” she’s taking the proceeds straight to her favorite home decor shop at the beach. She’s determined to create a refuge where she can write for Becoming, work, meditate or day dream and she’ll fill it with what she loves.

Interior Designer Nate Berkus says it perfectly, “You’re home should tell the story of who you are, and be a collection of what you love, brought together under one roof.” You don’t have to be a fengshui specialist to create your own utopia and we’ve included a few links to help you get one step closer to your dream space.
